Connection to The Sound of Music

There is a scene in a hotel ballroom that looks uncannily like the the interior of the Von Trapp Villa in the The Sound of Music. Both movies were made by 20th Century Fox in 1965, so it looks like a clear case of doubling up sets to save money. Perhaps the studio didn't have much expectation that either movie would make much of a splash.

Good catch! I examined stills from "The Sound of Music" and compared them to the hotel scenes in this film, and I would say that the entry hall in the Von Trapp family residence is most definitely the same set that was used for the hotel ballroom in this film.

Oh, many changes with the set dressing were made, but the basic set is the same---it made financial sense to re-use some of those expensive "Sound of Music" sets for other pictures, before they were demolished.
