Is the DVD available on Amazon censored?

I read in a user review on Amazon's site that the version released in 2003 (the only one available, at least in the States, to the best of my knowledge) was censored in some way. Any cineastes out there know whether or not this is true, and can you provide examples? I saw this on cable many years ago, and would love to re-introduce myself to this classic, but I hate to purchase chopped-up versions of any movies, not the least of which movies that were ahead of their time ... thanks in advance to anyone in the know...

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

The MGM dvd is censored. I don't think there's a lot cut out. There's no naked Julie Christie if that's what you're looking for.

reply

Well who wouldn't be looking for that...? Seriously, though, thanks for the response. It's much appreciated, and if that version is our only choice, c'est la vie, mon ami...

There's a UK version of Amazon (and a UK version of Ebay) that may (or may not) be able to get you the grown-up, un-cut version. I'm just flummoxed that this Puritanical American *beep* is *STILL* going on, in 2011! My God, what will become of our $800,000,000,000 "defense" budget--and other sacred myths--if the USA taxpayers see... NIPPLES! HMOG!...

There are several issues. I don't know that censorship is still the issue any more. It's more likely a factor of the fact that the studio only has the censored print & they would have to get the original from the UK... or whether Julie Christie wouldn't give consent to the missing scene in home video release.

Why would Christie have a say in it?
