Tarantino remaking?

I heard that Tarantino is remaking Come Drink With Me.

I take my coffee like I take my women... strong... black... and proud.

reply

I heard that too...well, QT knows his kung-fu. This could be sweet.

No, he doesn't. If he did, he wouldn't keep calling Wong Fei-Hung, Wong Fei-Ho.

I'd love to see Tarantino's version. My only gripe is that the Wienstein Compnay has the remake rights. Back when they were running Miramax, they'd buy up the US rights to Asian films, only to never release them. However, Tarantino has some influence with the Wiensteins, so I hope they listen to him.

Heard this too. I just don't know what the point is. So it's a classic, doesn't mean it needs to be remade!

LOL, I noticed that too. Bah I'm liking QT less and less.

Tarantino really doesn't know kung fu very well. Although he is a huge fan of it, I think his knowledge is strictly fanboy material. His films "Kill Bill" seemed to get a lot of things wrong when it comes to Asian cinema. Just read the book, "Chasing Dragons," by David West and you'd see just how many mistakes Tarantino is capable of when directing a movie that pays homage to martial arts/samurai films.

Didn't realize one had to follow the rules in order to make a kung fu film. Didn't many of the pioneering filmmakers of the 70s break the old rules of martial arts films? QT takes different genres and mixes them together so Kill Bill is a mish-mash, not an attempt to re-create kung fu/samurai films exactly.

So in thirty years will some young Asian filmmakers get the rights to remake PULP FICTION?

reply

Too bad Kill Bill's action scenes suck, although Tarantino had Yuen Woo-ping as a choreographer. Maybe it's because there's only so much you can do with a crappy script and Uma Thurman, even with stunts.

king hu makes art. tarantino makes entertainment. why compare?

reply

Well Ang Lee made a remake (of sorts) with the inn fight in Crouching Tiger when Ziyi Zhang demolished a host of baddies.
