This movie had so many great scenes

This movie had some hilarious scenes which I'm sure were intended to be serious. I got a hoot out of the scenes (1) Dr. Sorensen faints, Dr. Rampion asks a colleague what he was trying to say and the colleague says Sorensen was about to say the crack was travelling twice as fast as before, (2) the train crash, and (3) the scene where a guy's cable snaps and he falls into the molten lava in a volcano. :D

you thought it was FUNNY when the guy falls in the volcano? geez, you must have laughed your ass at hurricane katrina coverage...

The scene where Dr. Steele fell into the lava gave me nightmares when I was little.

How about the scene where they're flying in the chopper and the clouds aren't moving. Then again when they're blowing up the volcano and ten guys are supposed to evacuate in that tiny two man helicopter. Great stuff.

It's actually 'choppa'.

I swear I remember the ads on TV showing an interesting effect, not seen in the film:
the crack opens up under the ocean, and there is a corresponding trail of water splashing upwards, as if someone quickly lifted taut fishing line from just under the sufrace.
Great film

I just watched this for the first time as an adult. To me, the strangest thing is how calm— and even merry— all the scientists are in the face of the end of the world.

When Rampion & Steele are suited up to go down into the lava tube with the bomb, Steele says: "I knew I shouldn't have volunteered for this job. These suits are only tested to ten thousand degrees."

Rampion should have responded with: "Yeah, I know. So whatever you do, don't fart."

He would have totally owned that scene.

Nit-picky, I know, but the temperature stated was 1,000 degrees, not 10,000.
