I don't think the film provides any solid reason to believe that Lady Fingers was secretly helping Lancey to beat The Kid by feeding him cards, like Shooter was secretly feeding The Kid cards to help defeat Lancey. I mean, you can believe what ever you want to believe but, I don't think that there's any evidence included in the actual movie to support your theory, that's all.

However, I do think that your theory about Lady Fingers secretly feeding Lancey cards to help beat The Kid is a good premise for the sequel to "The Cincinnati Kid" that never got made. Where, Shooter maybe finds out that Lady Fingers did for Lancey, what Shooter was prevented from doing for The Kid. Which is to feed cards to the preferred player. Shooter then takes this information to Slade, and Slade confronts Lancey that he is aware that Lady Fingers assisted him in his match against The Kid.

Lancey protests that he knew anything about Lady Fingers feeding him cards, then reveals to Slade that he realized that Shooter was feeding The Kid cards after The Kid made up that lousy excuse to have Shooter replaced as the dealer. Lancey then accuses Slade of putting the squeeze on Shooter to make him cheat for The Kid, but Slade denies the accusations that he and Shooter were apart if any scheme to cheat Lancey.

But, in order to clear up any doubt who is the actual better poker player, the previous match-up between Lancey and The Kid is rendered null-and-void and the two play the rematch straight-up in the movie "The Return of the Cincinnati Kid". How do you like it that idea for a sequel?

Also, the sequel should take place several years after the first match-up when all of this new information comes to light and the eventual rematch between The Kid and Lancey is set to take place. The Kid, on the other hand, has now taken a straight job and settled down with Tuesday Weld (Christian) years later. The Kid now faces a whole new set of conflicts, he can either decide to leave the game behind him forever and continue with his role as a bread winning husband with dreams of being a father. Or, possibly risk gambling with his earnings to start a family in order to prove to himself and everyone else, that he's the best poker player of his day.

I believe the same. I agree that there is no overt evidence to the fact, but it would definitely support the inclusion of both Lady Fingers' importance in the film, and the ostensible friction between she and Lancey. It would also help the chance of such a final hand being dealt to both players.

Once this possibility is considered, then it's interesting to examine Shooter and Melba's actions, and whether either were also complaisant, and to what degree.

Conceivably, this could be one of the greatest grifts on film.

Sorry, but no way. And if she WERE feeding him cards, Lancey would have found some way to stop her from dealing, just as the Kid did with Shooter. Lancey wanted to beat the Kid straight up.

I think I'll have a large order of prognosis negative.
