In the 1960's this film was re-released every year. They would saturate the airwaves with the commercial. I remember also the films star Paul Tripp making personal appearances at the theatres. I saw him twice once at the UA Ridgewood which had a full stage. They also had Santa come out and did some sort of raffles with your ticket stubs. A year or so later I saw it again at the Trylon Theatre again with Mr. Tripp saying a few words and greeting his young fans. Great times that don't exist anymore in these cardboard rooms that pose as movie theatres.
My brother and I are currently working together on creating a website dedicated to this, our favorite holiday movie of all time. Perhaps we can include a section talking about this history of the film, if we can gather up enough information.
When you do create the website, you should have the song playing in the background:, how'd that go again.....oh yeah, I remember now:
There once was a Christmas that almost wasn’t, almost wasn't, almost wasn't There once was a Christmas that almost wasn’t, almost wasn't, almost wasn't Because of a man named prune Now prune was a man who jolly wasn't, sweet wasn't, merry wasn't Now prune was a man who just wasn't, a very nice man at all Prune, prune was his name He was a man who had no shame Prune, prune was his name If there is no Christmas he's to blame He tried to stop Christmas, we wished he wouldn't We thought he couldn't, he knew he shouldn't He tried to stop Christmas, but Santa wouldn't, let him have his way Though prune did his worst Santa worried wasn't Scared wasn't, conquered wasn't Though prune did his worst, his best wasn't, enough to stop Christmas day Prune, prune was his name, he was a man who had no shame Prune, prune was his name Prune, prune was his name If there is no Christmas he's to blame So there once was a Christmas that almost wasn't, almost wasn't, almost wasn't There once was a Christmas that almost wasn't, almost wasn't, almost wasn't Because of a man named prune
I don't know if I want to have it playing in the background, but it WILL be available for download (probably both the movie and record versions).
I am seriously trying to get this site up this month. We have the movie script done, like I said I have the soundtrack recorded, and I'm trying to get a good library of screencaps done up. Really the screencaps are the building blocks of the site, as I can't do proper character sections without them. ;)
