Book

Hey, has anyone read the book? Any opinions on which is better, book or movie (or just differences)?

I didn't even know there was a book.

The book is a really sappy horse opera. It's actually serious! Some of the women of the town support Cat and are responsible for saving her in the end. There is a "ballad" that runs through it, though obviously not the same as that in the movie.

Incidentally, Roy Chanslor also wrote another novel about a woman rescued from the noose by her lover. (At least I assume that's what it was about. I've got the book but still have to get around to reading it one of these days.) Guess the guy had some kinda fetish about this kinda thing. Anyway, this novel was made into a movie too (back in 1954), and it's definitely a cult classic.

Any idea what it is?

HINT: The title role was played by Sterling Hayden, but the two stars were battling females (in fact, as much so off-screen as on).

I own and have read the book (I tend to buy books that were made into movies); believe me, the movie is far more enjoyable.

Just started to look for it today. I have the same Collection Books that will become Movies. I have the first Paperback Version of Airport even before there was talk of a Movie Version. Those are the fun books to come across at Used Book Stores. Even if it is a Serious Book will look for it to own.
