Dean, shmean

A naturalistic method actor with serious sex appeal, that's what Michael Parks is in this film, as in everything else he did. That's the only similarity I see to Dean, and it isn't much. As a matter of fact, I think he's hotter (not more attractive but hotter) than Dean. The Dean performance that probably most resembled Park's youthful work was probably the stage performance in "The Immoralist" -- not any of his movies. I wish all this Dean comparison would please stop. The need to fill a void left by Dean may have been at the root of much of the talk way back when, but we've had a lot of misunderstood and smoldering young men on the screen since then. Nobody talked about Christopher Jones as a "James Dean imitator" but he's as close to one as Parks was. Parks simply came along when the label sprang to people's lips more easily, and he has never shaken it. It's not fair. Parks was beautiful, talented, and he had the goods to sell parts like this one and "The Idol." He should have been a bigger star, but he has done all right.

Michael Parks AND Christopher Jones were talked about as James Dean wannabes.

Funny thing, after watching this movie, I came here to see if anyone saw the resemblance to Dean, especially in the last scene with Paula. Seems he was trying to act like Dean. I found it to be distracting.
