Moronic Garbage

Lynley's character is an imbecile. With all the opportunities she had the last (interminable) 15 minutes or so to get away with her daughter, She allows herself to be blindfolded and spun around by her brother, who she knows to be a psycho who wants to kill the girl. What about hide and seek? She's standing with the kid by an open door, but does she run out? No, dumbbell runs upstairs to hide in a bedroom. This thing had plot holes so big you could drive a truck through them. Zero suspense, an idiot for a heroine, a villain you could see coming from the first two minutes, and a totally unbelievable storyline. Aside from Laura, on which he was a replacement, Preminger was a hack. He directed in a sledgehammer manner, everything was so obvious. I hope Olivier was well paid for his time; he cannot have been proud to have this crap on his resume.

This movie is great, the last 15 minutes are done wonderfully, maybe you shouldnt watch movies that have suspense and substance to them,it may be too much for you to grasp

Thanks for your reply. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who watched intelligent movies without having to have everything explained to me.

This is one of the limpest, most asinine movies I've ever seen. Absolutely friggin' stupid from start to finish. If you like this movie, you know nothing about psychology, film technique or storytelling.

When Lynley and her daughter slam the door shut, It's against the BACK door, which leads to the yard, not the front door which might lead them to freedom.

This has been brought up in several other threads.

reply

it's the same door she used to get into the house

all she would have had to do is retrace her steps

Never found it suspenseful and too slow moving but very atmospheric and evocative. Has an erie dreamlike aspect. Yes it is silly at points and could have used a rewrite but otherwise is quite good.

The music is crap though.

I also believe just because you have a great actor you don't stick him or her in every scene. The actor is there to portray a character. Someone can be in a movie for 5 minutes but be the most important think in it.

A good watchable movie but not great.

Yeah I agree...moronic garbage. You people are laughable thinking you are so much smarter than us, therefore able to appreciate it. I am sure you have heard of "The Emperor's New Clothes"?

reply

I thought the title of this thread referred to Zombies. In a way, it does.

reply

I think "moronic garbage" is an overstatement, but I did find the climactic sequence too drawn out. I also think the movie would have worked better if the brother's derangement had been hinted at earlier instead of being sprung on the viewer all at once in the third act.

I must echo what has already been said...Your tastes in movies must have large body counts to them. This is a great film!
