Wait, a real family played the family?!?!

Okay, I've loved this movie for years, and have raved about it and written about it, but only just now did I realize that the original family all has the same last name. Adds an extra layer of ....queasiness, I think. I have to spend more time digesting this. Thoughts or info?

^Not sure what other info you need, but, yes, the Drouots are still a married couple and the two little children in the movie are their actual children.

Thanks for confirming. I thought they were wonderful, and it is one of the most thought-provoking casting choices I can think of. It brings all kinds of questions to mind, like 'Were they actors before this movie?', 'Was it a challenging job for them?', 'Was that their real house?'

In one of the Criterion interviews, filmed I believe about a decade ago, Claire Drouot says that in some ways working on the film together helped their marriage, and yes they're still together :)

It must have been awkward when it was time to shoot the sex scenes with the other woman!

True, the French are liberal and open minded, at least some are, but they are only human too. I am watching the movie now, but the year on my movie says 1965. If both are still living, that is cool they are still married. I imagine they are grandparents now, or even great grands.
