Why not yet on DVD?

Does anyone know why this film (a near-brilliant updating of one of those classic one-set French farces) has never been released on DVD?

reply

Because, when compared to any of the stage productions, this movie sucks!

Putting it on DVD would be a waste of resources

Hello,
I saw the stage version on Broadway a season back and thought it was quite cute. However, I just saw the movie and am puzzled. It is different in a number of things from the play, most notably the ending- it is COMPLETELY different, and the play has an Italian girlfriend, not French, and an American girlfriend, not British. I don't understand why they had to change these things for the movie. Why can't movie people adhere to a play the way it is written? The play's ending was more satisfying, I thought! What was your reason for disliking the movie?

reply

Maybe it's because I haven't seen the stage version. But I've laughed my head off each time I've seen it on the tele.
It's a lot better than many of new stuff that is released right away.

Yes,it is out on DVD which has been remastered with new footage and includes commentary from both Jerry Lewis and Tony Curtis. Recently,TCM(Turner Classic Movies)has showed the restored version. Worth seeing since this was the last of the Jerry Lewis films that had made with Hal Wallis and Paramount Pictures in 1965.

I called Movies Unlimited and the young man who tried assist me with my
search for "Boeing Boeing" (1965) was Jerry Lewis fan and said that this film
had not been officially released. 1) Movies Unlimited is, I believe, the
most comprehensive source in the World to purchase officially released
theatrical films and television, and 2) this young man was a big fan of Jerry
Lewis and this film, so I think that he would probably be correct.

If I may ask, have you purchased "Boeing Boeing" and where did you get it?

I found this movie for sale on DVD at sell.com. However, as I have never bought anything from that website or know anyone who has, I am hesitant to buy it because this was the only reference anywhere that I could find for the movie on DVD.

Contrary to popular belief by previous posters on this board, "Boeing Boeing" has not yet been released officially by Paramount Home Video on DVD here in the US as of yet. There has been only DVD-R copies of the film available for sale on EBAY and other internet sites that sell supposedly "public domain" films on DVD. Those DVD-R versions of "Boeing Boeing" are recorded from the official out of print VHS copy of the film that Paramount released in the late 1980's. That's the way I managed to get a copy of this film on DVD. Possibly the video company Legend Films that in the past year has released on DVD here in the US some of Paramount Pictures lesser known films like Martin & Lewis' "Money From Home". might be able to release "Boeing Boeing" on DVD especially taking in advantage the recent Broadway revival of the play the film is based on. And the only official audio commentaries that Jerry Lewis has done on DVD has been only for the films he did for Paramount without Dean Martin that he did in the late 50's up to the mid 60's and those don't include "Boeing Boeing". I have the recent Jerry Lewis DVD Box Set from Paramount Home Video, that has all those films with those Lewis comentaries and "Boeing Boeing" is certainly not in that collection.
