Anyone know where this was filmed-esp. end tank battle?

This was on again this weekend on AMC- remember seeing it when I was eleven. Has some good scenes. My dad thought the tank battle at the end of the movie was filmed on Camp Pendelton, CA. Anyone know- TIA-- Steve in San Diego

IMDb doesn't say, but I always thought this was filmed in Spain. I think I read this in Ken Annakin's autobiography. It's not exactly convincing scenery as the Ardennes isn't famed for its mountain ranges or rolling plains, but you could get Franco's army at cut price rates in those days.

Thank you, Mr. Spydog. You're right about getting cheap labor, that probably had a lot to do with where they filmed it!

The Imdb says it was filmed at Ft Hood, Tx and around Yakima, Wa.
The final battle at the end of the film looks very much like the rolling hills around Yakima.

Yeah, IMDB does say that. But the overall Euro cast makes me doubt that. Plus the use of so many M-24s in 1965. The M-47s ("Tigers", like those were the only German tanks in the Ardennes campaign) *could* have come from U.S. National Guard units in 1965, but the M-24s are suspicious. The whole thing smells like Spain and Spanish Army to me. (I only wish I had a tape or DVD with me now to look at the credits to look for Spanish names). To see something that makes me think so, look at "Patton" made just 4 years later, in Spain. Same types of American-made Spanish tanks (including M-24 lights as American / British generic tanks) and some hilly pine woods that evoked the Ardennes better than they did in "Bulge."
