Algeria would be nowhere....Without colonialism and French exploitation. It was not pretty, but the Algerians learned irrigation, superior architechtural techniques, and the paving of roads from their more advanced invaders.

Today, Algeria is a dangerous place to be if you are say...Gay, black, Jewish, Christian, or female. France is a far more tolerant and inclusive culture -- ask any Algerian! Algeria missed a civilized boat when they started killing the French Pieds-Noirs in the '50's. And ever since, the French have rightly or wrongly regarded the Muslim as a sexist, racist element which has diluted the grandeur of European culture.

People vote with their feet: The Muslim seeks to live in Germany, France and England; while the people of those nations rarely emigrate to Muslim lands. Expliquez-moi ca!

Yes, they're better off, but does that justify essentially stealing land and humiliating the people? What if someone walked in your house, took control, made the rules and demeaned you. Then he'd say to you "hey, I installed a pool and added another garage. You're better off with me".

Oh and it's not as restrictive as you think. 60% of all university students in Algeria are women. Women also dominate the fields of law and medicine over men in staggering numbers.

Thats why its a complex situation. The French see themselves as helping out and keeping order and civilization. The Algerians see them as cruel dictators. Neither is completely right or wrong.

Seems like you are arguing that the Algerians had no right to complain or revolt, but I disagree with that. The French may have brought a lot of good things to that region, but they still took away all their freedom. The French dont get a free pass to suppress the locals just because they built them a road and running water.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the French ever done for the Algerians?

Don't listen to the negative ones; their arguments are irrational.

I'm Algerian. Sorry to burst your bubble my friend, but most of our population is black. We accept all religious beliefs(e.g we have mosques for Muslims and churches for Christians) Get your facts straight before giving your opinion, otherwise you'll end up looking pretty ignorent.
