Males voted this 8.3, females only 5.4

This is quite a discrepancy. Why is this?

I'm a woman. I gave it a nine.

I'm a woman who can't be bothered to vote on internet sites. The only lower form of life than site voters are men who take out their frustrations with women by bitching about them on website boards ;) simma down noaw. I just saw the Battle of Algiers...absolutely incredible. I'd rate it a 10. PS I loved City of God, too; bet that's not highly rated with women.

This woman gives it a 10.

I think women who are interested in film and have a certain level of experience & knowledge of the medium rate this great film very highly.

However, many of the people who post and vote on IMDB skew young, and aren't necessarily sophisticated in their tastes or experience.

It's an uninteresting stat to me, as I take all IMDB stats with a very large grain of salt. This place, fun as it is, is hardly thelast word in anything, and I honestly don't care whether more men than women like a certain film - it's completely irrelevant to the film's intrinsic quality.

I gave Godfather a 9
Godfather II 10
Children of Men (which this film directly influenced) 10
Master & Commander 10
Amorres Peros 9
Paths of Glory 10

Then...
Pride & Prejudice (05) 10
Sense & sensibility 10

And the ratings for JA flicks don't make me a wimp.

That is a strange discrepancy. I'm a sixteen year old girl (probably not very representative of this film's fandom), an I absolutely love this film, both as a piece of art, and as a piece of history.

What I don't get is why the sort of stereotypical woman who wouldn't like a film as violent as this would even see it.

reply

Of the few females who watch this, they are either film students, film buffs, or those who were curious about it but were disappointed (the fourth category is the idiots who vote it down because they want their favorite movie to go up).

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

reply

Yeah, I thought that was really weird as well. My demographic (Females under 18) has given it 5.0! I couldn't believe that. I love this movie.

reply

I am a female and this is one of my favorite films of all time. Not all females like 24 Dresses and fluff films.

I love these "if it weren't for x (relatively small) number of women, this would have a much higher rating threads. I especially like it when people start painting groups of people with a wide brush and seem to expect that everyone of a group hates this or prefers that.

Perhaps those 40-some very influential females under 18 didn't care about the subject matter, or maybe the subtitles, or maybe because it's not in color, or maybe too violent, or maybe there's a low rating pact of young women in a high school who gives low scores to great movies to tick people off....

reply

I voted 10. Ratings change all the time. It's females: 6.2% right now.

reply

I gave it a 10.

reply

Maybe the females are a bit smarter if not smart enough to see the film as trashy terrorist propaganda.

reply

LOL.
