When imdb changed its rating system for the imdb top 250, some of the most beloved movies of all-time suffered as a result. The films below have tremendous scores, but have been bumped from the top 250 because they don't have the newly required sum of 25,000 votes. If you haven't done so already, cast your vote and spread the word to get these deserving films back in the top 250!

The new voting system is very, very irritating and not at all reflective of film quality. The list you post contains 3 films from the 1920's that are not shown on TV in the UK and not readily available on dvd either. Hence they and others are disadvantaged when it's numbers of votes rather than a median of the votes cast that is used for inclusion. How IMDb can consider itself a film information website rather than a marketing forum for major film distributors is beyond me.

The Battle of Algiers is so well made that it has a timeless quality. Even though it's about a specific period in history it remains current and contemporary with acting and photography that wears very well.

I agree with PoppyTransfusion that the new system is a nuisance.

Although many of the films you listed are a long way from qualifying, The Battle of Algiers will probably return to the Top 250 in roughly a year's time. That's assuming they don't increase the number of votes required by even more.

I wouldn't mind if they had a system that pushed the titles with fewer votes down a bit in the rankings, but I think excluding them completely is too much. Especially when you consider the Sight and Sound Poll put Tokyo Story as the best film of all time.

I was giddy when Ikiru got to 25k, now we have just over 1k to go here, and man do I wish I could vote a thousand times. I own the criterion blu of this film, and I really love it. They put so much into it, there's no doubt it's one of the best, and the extras? Just wow.

So everyone, call on your friends to rate it. Doesn't matter what the number is, within reason!, but we need more votes to get this into the 250.

Only votes from regular voters are considered for top 250. So the actual number of votes has to be quite a bit more than 25000.

True. And as someone said in another movie post, a good measure would be that a movie must have at least 5 years old in order to be considered for the top 250.

On that note, the Academy Awards should also have a 5 year delay. Some of the more controversial decisions probably wouldn't have happened if they had to wait five years. For one thing, the hype surrounding some movies would definitely die down. For another, there would be enough time for less well-known movies to get the attention and recognition they deserve.

I am also concern with this new method. I have been a follower of IMDB but now I see its all the latest movie coming in top 250 because the number of viewers have access to this site and are aware so they vote it good and in more number... Which is bad as because some of movies u mentioned if released now will get the number of votes... This new Mad max, Avengers, Captain America in top 250 and we see great movies like the good bad and ugly which was at rank 4 came down because people knw about the Dark knight more than a foreign film...I am from India nd i see some movies coming up because indians are more in number and hence the number of votes fr such movies will be more... Its a sad thing... IMDB shud come up with a corrected method

I'm not sure if that's fair. 12 Angry Men (1957) has risen from rank 8 to rank 5 in just over a year, and all three movies it passed on the way up – Schindler's List (1993), Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966), and Pulp Fiction (1994) – have a higher number of votes.

Actually I gave that reference to support how new/famous movies have advantage over old or not so famous ones..

Yes, but in the example I gave, the movie that came out on top was both older and less famous than the others. I'm not saying you're wrong on the whole – it seems to me too that newer and more famous movies have an unfair advantage – but I'd be careful about attributing specific examples to this effect.

The time distinction is when the largest influx of people began using imdb. So the difference between a movie from the 50s and the 60s is irrelevant. Pulp Fiction came out before most people had internet.

Its the last 10 years where imdb has seen a massive amount of score inflation. Everything from about 2005 on is 1-2 points higher than it should be, because a lot of people started voting around that time and people began voting for movies when they saw them.

11 years later and most are back. Nothing wrong with 25k requirement.
The list is dominated by 1990 and later. Too much Batman and Nolan. WallE, WTF?
