In most cases I try not to be too judgmental about people who like movies I dislike: I just figure that they're entitled to their preferences, and I forget about it. But when a movie combines huge and unjustified pretensions to intellectuality on the one hand with breathtaking stupidity on the other, as Alphaville does, then I have to dismiss people who like that movie as pseudo-intellectuals.
