Alpha 60 or HAL 9000

Which do you think was the better overall super computer? You can base it on pretty much any thing you like.

I prefer Alpha 60. Because it seemed to better at controlling everything around it.

HAL 9000, Kubrick was the master of suspense and atmosphere. That computer was the scariest in cinema, plus I found Alpha 60's voice really annoying.

reply

why compare something from a godard film to one in a kubrick film? and besides--the overall super computer? are you *beep* me? did you think this was going to spark a huge thread about super computers/godard/kubrick? do you think MTV2 should start an alternative Celebrity Death Match and have Alpha 60 and HAL 9000 duke it out in a space arena? OF COURSE YOU DO!

AAH *head bursts*

reply

No. This has nothing to do with Godard versus Kubrick. I was simply asking a question. The comparisons are there to be made and I was just curious as to what others thought.

For the record, I don't get MTV2, and when I did get MTV, I liked Celebrity Death Match just the way it was.

Further more, it matters very little to me who responds, or how many people respond to my thread. It was just a thought from one movie lover to the world of movie lovers.

I'm sorry if you didn't get that.

HAL easily, Alpha's voice was extremely annoying.

HAL 9000. There seemed to be too many operational "gaps" in Alpha 60's world (people committing suicide, equipment falling into disarray, rambling illogic).

Alpha 60 may have had a broader control, but Hal 9000 could sing "Daisy Bell." That pretty much seals the deal for me.

reply

I believe the song was "A Bicycle Built for Two."

Hal

reply

"Daisy Bell" is the song's title.

Alpha 60 makes a better villain. He's a Nazi, not a Psycho.

black and white movies were better
