Why do women over 45 hate Japanese Humanism?

Take a look at the ratings: Tokyo Story, Ugetsu, Ikiru, all rated poorly by women over 45. What gives?

A few years ago I tried showing this movie to my wife (who was over 45). Half way through it she made me turn it off and said angrily "How could you make me watch such an awful movie!". My wife was a health-care professional and a very compassionate person, and I can't put her response down to any character flaw. She just saw the world differently than I did. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Nope, except to remind you that the people rating movies on IMDb are not the whole world. Don't worry about it.

I'm a woman over 45, btw, and I rated Akahige and Ikiru as 10s.

I think for some women there comes a time in their life when it's obvious you should care about other people, and when you show that message to them it's like showing a mechanic a film of how you need to change your car oil, or showing a military general how you need have your army fight the enemy. It's just obvious to them, and they get bored of it because odds are they spent most of their life rearing your kids. They already know the message. Why show it to them again?

A thought occurred to me; the women who voted down the film may have had some hard times themselves. There may be some anger and resentment brought forth by the film, and so they voted the way they did.

I've been around the boards a bit now, and it has long been suspected by several people that hiding in the 'women over 45' section is some sort of organised group who wish to try and manipulate ratings.
Why, no one knows, but that category throws up some very weird results quite frequently.

It is suspected that they chose to hide in 'women over 45' (as a social demographic) because that section will be looked on (mostly) with respect and kudos. Contrast, for example, with 'Males under 18', which will (often) be dismissed as only interested in comic book adaptations or American college sex comedies
.
So it is thought by some, that certain individuals have registered false accounts as Women over 45 to vote down some films, probably to allow others to ride higher.

Sounds a bit conspiracy theory? I agreed first time I saw the idea proposed .. "who on earth would BOTHER to do that". But over the years I have seen so many respected films dragged down by 'Women 45+' that I suspect there is some truth to it.

Made the same observation. Many Kurosawa films have been pushed out of or lower in the top 250 because the rating has been docked by "women over 45". This trend continues through many Japanese classics. These ratings stick out compared to other demographics and there is an obvious pattern in what movies are rated that way.

Because they can't use it to clean their kitchen. Any other questions?
