Get this: Fox has announced that The Agony and the Ecstasy will be released on Blu-ray later this year (although a release date has not been set yet)!

Think I last saw it in the 80's, would be great if I could get it on blu-ray.

Sadly, I don't know anymore than you do. Three years have passed since the announcement and I believe it's fallen by the wayside during that time. I still hold out hope that a Blu-ray will be forthcoming.

Finally it is released in 2014! Excellent transfer but sadly no special features. It would have been interesting to have some information of how the Sistine Chapel set was built. Having been to the actual site I'm stunned by how closely the movie's set is to the real one.
