Loved this bit..

When Michelangelo's showing Julius his inspired plans in the middle of a war zone, and they start arguing over cost while firepower is whizzing past their oblivious heads, I was laughing myself silly. Then Julius sends him an invoice for two month's rent when he hasn't even been paid lol, this movie is full of humor. Truly grand performances by both leads, fantastically entertaining piece of cinema, even if slightly poetic in its depiction of historical data.

I loved those parts too. But my favorite part is when Michaelangelo is showing the Pope his interpretation of God and the creation of Adam, and the Pope is astounded and awed by his views of God and his love for all. I think that part, as well as others, should be in the quote section of the movie's page.

And so the Lion fell in Love with the Lamb...

I agree. There are some humorous moments. Here are the ones that stick out for me:

1. When Michelangelo is in the tavern, and exclaims, "Hey, Dino! This wine's sour!", to which the bartender counters, "Do you want your nose broken again?"

2. When the papal guards, searching for Michelangelo, come to a dirt-poor section of the city, I don't know, there's something funny to me about the response they get when they ask if anybody's seen Michelangelo: "No, no, I haven't seen him". You're sure?" "Yes, I'm sure. He wouldn't come around here anyway".

3. When they came to Carrera shouting, "You there above! I have you seen Michelangelo the Florentine!" "Don't understand!" LOL!

Another couple of funny bits: when Michaelangelo knocks the can off the scaffold, and the paint lands on the priests walking below. (I could see that one coming.)

A few weeks later, the Pope is about to pass under the same spot. He hears a ladder falling up above. He looks up, and you can see his mouth moving but you can't hear him. He's probably saying some like, "Anything else falls off there, it'll be your a**!"

I agree with each point of your post.
The film has a great sense of humor and I think it helps it become something more than it would have been otherwise.
