It's back on Retro TV Network (RTN)

It starts today(7-26-08) on my local Retro TV Network(RTN) according to their schedule. Here RTN is broadcast on a digital subchannel of a local terrestrial HDTV station, and they do have some great shows I remember mostly from reruns during my early childhood as well as more "popular" 60's, 70's & 80's shows like The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Simon & Simon, Magnum P.I., Knightrider, the original Battlestar Galactica, It Takes a Thief, etc.(They just bumped Wild Wild West, and Mission Impossible before I got to see all the back episodes...) I just hope they run all the episodes of anything good that comes along.

This one I haven't seen, but I'm looking forward to it. Ben Gazzara has played interesting characters.

RTN has played "Leave it to Beaver" instead. Very disappointing. 2 weekends in a row now--this show and others that were scheduled have not been on yet.

I suspect that the reason "Run for Your Life" and others did not air was that they were unavailable. I was disappointed as well that "Leave It to Beaver" was on so many times. In addition, for what it's worth, it would not surprise me that RTN was not prepared to air all of the shows from the Universal TV library when the contract for the Paramount/Viacom shows ended. As much as I enjoy RTN, they did not plan the transition very well.

FYI: it's nice to see "Run for Your Life" again after nearly 30+ years.

I caught the last few minutes of an episode of Run For Your Life on RTN today. In it Gazzara'a character was attempting to set a land speed record. The Bonneville Salt Flats footage from the film The Lively Set caught my eye as I was flipping past. I didn't have a chance to get much of a feel for this series, one I've never heard of before. Just have to tune in again next week, I guess.

Anyway, The Bold Ones came on next. One thing I can say for TBO is that it seems to have pretty high production values. It looks sharp and sophisticated so far.

I just watched an episode on RTN. He was trying to help a young woman get off drugs.

Have you forgotten how it felt that day/To see your homeland under fire/And her people blown away?

Thanks so much for the heads up. I can now tape two episodes a week on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. I LOVED this show as a teenager. In 1965 I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease, and I romanticized my life to be like Paul Bryan's. Well, I'm still here 40-some years later, but I never miss a chance to go somewhere interesting or do something new (cruise down the Nile, hot air ballooning in Kenya, cruising the Mediterranean).

Some of these episodes are so well written, and it's amazing the talent they had on TV--I've seen Kim Darby, Martin Milner, and Bobby Darin so far. Amazing.

I'd never heard of this show before I got a digital converter box and wound up getting the RTN channel---I just sat down and watched a full episode for the first time today called "The Frozen Image", starring the jazz singer Mel Torme, who was credited with writing the episode. It's about a singer whose big ego and narcissism drive everybody, including his long-suffering wife, away from him. He meets Paul Bryan in a bar Las Vegas casino and asks him to be his business manager right on the spot---and the plot thickens from there. Very interesting episode also featuring future MOD SQUAD Michael Cole in a small but pivotal part. I could'nt help but wonder if the episode was autobiographical, since Torme wrote it---form what I've been reading about him on the IMDB,it most likely was. I like the premise of the show, which was probably considered unique back in its day.
Two other shows I'm beginning to like are SUSPENSE THEATRE (an anthology of suspense tales) and ALIAS SMITH & JONES (a western-comedy drama, which is actually quite funny sometimes---just watched the last part of an episode this morning).

Why is RTN not carried by TW cable in NYC? Wake-up TW cable and get with it. We want our Retro TV!

Watching an episode now - "Rediscovery of Charlotte Hyde". Stars a beautiful young Gena Rowlands, with Fernando Lamas. Great actors. Thanks RTV!

This is one of the best television shows ever made and this episode I'll always remember for some reason. I loved the way Ernie Borgnine played his role. This show never got the credit it deserved.

Season 2, Episode 14: Time and a Half on Christmas Eve
Original Air Date—19 December 1966
In this Christmas themed episode, Paul Bryan gets stranded when his plane takes an emergency landing and the other passengers grab all the rental cars to get home for the holiday. He ends up spending Christmas eve with a garrulous cab drive and determines to play Santa for his new found friend.
