no laugh track

i just got to see some of these episodes. I really only remembered the dog and the dog door from childhood. WHat I did not remember was no audience OR canned applause. Isn;t that rare for this time period? I don't think I have seen any other sitcoms from this era without it. Any experts who can explain>

Where have you seen this show recently? I haven't seen re-runs of it anywhere for at least 20 years. I'd love to see it again!

The second season of The Monkees (67-68) had no laugh track. It is kind of odd.

Could be they were trying to invoke the feel of the movie.

The Monkees is generally thought to have been inspired by 'A Hard Day's Night,' but the producers, being new to the game, were probably powerless to veto a laugh track until the show was a proven hit.

I've researched none of this.

Although I don't recall, I believe there was a laugh track for its original Network run. When I recorded it from the CBN channel in the late 1980's, it had the laugh track. However, when I recorded a 2nd copy from WOR - Channel 9 NY, surprise! No laugh track!

I know your post was years ago, but if you are still interested in seeing this show again, someone has uploaded a bunch of episodes to youtube.

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

reply

Yes there was a laugh track.

And so what if there wasn't?

I hated Laugh Tracks... then one time I saw an episode of 'Get Smart' and it did not have a laugh track... it seemed very weird and uncomfortable. I can not believe I actually missed it.. maybe background music would have helped.

Strange as it is, many of us really need a laugh track.. I think it has to do if you are watching alone. I am a lonely person, I need a laugh track 

I'm watching the PDETD episode now called The Big Train. Not a recorded chuckle, guffaw or twitter in the whole episode! I've been enjoying the episodes on youtube so much, just good clean humor, and a show that is 25 minutes long without commercials... didn't even realize the laugh track was missing at first!

Edit: I just realized the pilot does have a laugh track. I wish more shows would get rid of them.
