Many people think that the cute phrase, Whatever is something that is newer. It was the tagline that was used in the show week after week. Avery would butcher Van Dyke's name in the show from Crabtree to Crabapple etc

Van Dyke would correct him and then Avery would take the moment pause, look at him and say.........Whatever.

So when your kid or someone uses the line WHATEVER you can tell them that the phrase is almost 50 years old and where it first started.

That whole bit was stolen a few years later by All in the Family."Feltcher,Fletcher.....whatever".

Thanks...I just happen to be looking on YouTube at all of the All in the Family shows and yeah, your right it was used a few times there.

On MMTC, it was the repeated tag line every show.
