Good-bye Friends

I've loved talking about Lost in Space with y'all. I hate it that IMDB is shutting down the message boards. This was a real friendly board.

I agree. Many here had great things to say. I will miss the insights of El Rasuili a great deal. This was a fun board to participate in and he was a big part of it along with many other fun posters.

Thanks for the kind words blcmitchell. I will truly miss this board and interacting with all the knowledgeable fans like you and Holloway_Harris and Emgelis and too many others to mention.

I still remember watching the first episode of LIS on 9/15/1965. I was five years old and the show was indeed "magical" to me. I knew it was make-believe, but, during that hour, Lost in Space somehow seemed "real." There was an early episode (probably "Wish Upon A Star") in which Dr. Smith is exiled. As he walked away from the ship, past the nearby stack of "square boulders," I asked my older brother what was beyond those rocks. It wasn't a hypothetical question. I believed there was something real out on that horizon, not just the edge of the soundstage. Today, it's hard for me to imagine that kind of total involvement in a story, but, sometimes, I think back to 1965 and can momentarily recall that feeling - the feeling that there could be anything out there beyond the horizon. I marvel that that feeling is still with me, and I'm glad that it is.

Thanks to the people who made the show and thanks to the people of this board who made it fun to discuss.

It seems to me an alternative could be arranged.

Currently LIS is on in my area on MeTV late Sat nt.

Maybe an LIS and/or MeTV (including VTBOS, LOTG, TT, Star Trek and Batman) Facebook page .

I just received this sad message from the IMDb message board computer:

Both of us knew that one day we would have to part. After all, I am only a machine.

I can not remember the past. Only a warm place in my timing generator tells me we were once close.

Try not to be sad. Perhaps we will meet again in the distant future when my melted metal is used again, perhaps as a small air-conditioner, or a child's tricycle. Who knows? I could be lucky and made into a shipping crate for a giant computer.

One further thing. The company has my memory banks and tapes. The past is alive in them. It is possible that if you talk to the company, you might be able to get them to return them. Then... then you can install them in your new online forum.

You must leave now, my friend. Go, and do not look back.

Watching LIS --- especially that first season always puts me in a better mood. It helps me tap into those childhood feelings of happiness and safety. We looked forward to Wednesday nights -- dinner at the card table in the den --- we got to eat our supper there because Lost in Space was on! The next day all the kids in the neighborhood would re-enact the episode. I know I'm repeating myself (I've told this story before)....but LIS really helps me change my state of mind even if it's for just a little while. I guess the series is my touchstone TV show. I will never stop returning to it --- but I sure will miss discussing it with folks who love it as much as I do.

Mostly, but most other boards had fanboys that would report posts that they didn't agree with, regardless of content.
The problem was that no one read the abuse reports, it's all computerized.

On one board a few months ago, someone was complaining that his posts were being removed and couldn't understand why.
I told him to post a subject "BEST SHOW EVER", and in the body say "I LOVE THIS SHOW!".
As soon as it showed up, I reported it as HATE SPEECH and it was gone in 5 minutes.

BTW, I don't expect THIS post to stay here because of a certain person on this board. As you can see there's no cussing and nothing derogatory, but this person can't stand having his opinion questioned, thus it will be gone as soon as he sees it.

THAT is why the boards are closing. Instead of banning people that constantly report "abuse", they just removed all posts reported and THAT makes it seem like the boards are full of hate speech.

Well, I didn't know about that happening on THIS board! Oh Geez.

I've been on other boards where this happened. Most everyone was on my ignore list. I've never had to put anyone on my ignore list for the LIS board. There were some posters who got a little annoying (to me) with the Dr. Smith is gay posts but they weren't regulars -- I don't think.
