Opening Credits

Today I noticed the opening credits with the Laredo theme song.

Neville Brand has three still shots of him, then an action shot of him firing a rifle and his name on the screen.

Both Peter Brown and William Smith only have two still shots before the action shot with their names.

Then Philip Carey has three still shots before the action shot showing his name.

Neville Brand and Philip Carey must have been considered bigger stars than Brown and Smith since they each have an extra still shot in the opening credits.

That's possible. Brand and Carey had been in more big-name movies than Brown or, especially, Smith, so they might have been considered bigger stars and deserving of a little more attention in the credits.

Brand and Carey had been in more and bigger movies than Brown, but Brown was coming off of a four year run as the co-star of TV's "Lawman" so he may have been the better known TV name by then. Smith was the true unknown at that point in their respective careers.

There was a three-year gap between "Lawman" and "Laredo", so it's possible that Brown didn't have the same stroke he would have had if "Laredo" had premiered in '62. True, Smith was the relative unknown, whose main credit was the short-lived '61 series "Asphalt Jungle".
The SAG rules on order of listing in credits is only slightly less complicated than the US tax code.
