RIP... Robert Culp

At his passing today, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to all of Mr. Culp's family and friends. Robert Culp was not only a personal hero of mine, and one that I've consciously (and unconsciously) patterned my life after - but he was a hero for all the world, during a time when America needed a true hero. Growing up in the 50's and the 60's, Mr. Culp was the epitome of 'cool'(I can think of no other actor, except perhaps Steve McQueen, who this could be said about.) Ironically, it was Robert Culp, who gave Steve McQueen his big break in show-biz, in the episode of Trackdown, with Steve portraying the bounty hunter Josh Randall - who would later go on to have his own TV show, and a place in Hollywood history. From what I understand of Robert Culp's career, this was not an isolated incident. With his earnest dedication to his craft, he made every production better - whether it be acting, producing, or directing, he was the consummate professional. Mr. Culp... you will be missed! Hollywood has lost a great, great talent.

'I Spy' was one of the best television shows of the '60's. Culp and Cosby made a fine team. Robert will indeed be greatly missed.

Agreed. Robert Culp was one of the coolest actors of the last century. I played the video game Half Life recently, and the starring voice actor sounded so familiar, and I looked it up it was Robert Culp! What a great voice!

In any case, I'm watching I Spy on TV right now and Culp & Cosby are SO FREAKING COOL and I mean "cool" as in the old "hip" fashion, as they are completely unflappable. These new pretty boy movie stars could learn a lot about cool from Robert Culp.

I'll be watching your work forever Robert! God bless.

He was a terrific actor, and a reasonably smart guy from the evidence available, but . . . . hero? How far down has our culture sunk when people are calling actors heroes? And no offense meant to the memory of Robert Culp, who I'm certain would agree with me.

In any case, for more datapoints demonstrating Mr. Culp's 'coolness', check out all 3 of his "The Outer Limits" (ABC, 1963-65) episodes, available for free on Hulu.
