Why leave New York?

You have a gorgeous penthouse in New York and you leave it for a broken down house in the middle of nowhere. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

PIGS & SHIT.

If they don't leave New York then there's no show to watch. And in 2021 you don't understand why people are fleeing New York city? If anything this show makes even more sense now than it did when it came out.

One of the reasons I never saw this show was the broken down house. It looked too ugly for me and I didn't want to look at it for multiple seasons.

One of the most fundamental reasons for the culture clash during the 1960's was there were people who could recall the simplicity of earlier times when the world seemed smaller and yearned to return to it. Hooterville was the simplicity that many sought and to be an intellectual giant among the locals. At the other end of the spectrum were the people that felt the rural areas were a testament to a repressive culture and sought to escape it at any opportunity.

Almost none of the sitcoms from that time were supposed to make any sense.
Beverly Hillbillies, I Dream Of Jeannie, Hogan's Heroes, Bewitched, The Addams and Munsters?
It was all extremely dumb, silly fun, and trying to find the sense in it is silly in itself.

You are right. The show didn’t make any sense in the way that they had a life of luxury in New York and moved to a house that was broken down and needed lots of repair work. The other shows didn’t make any sense either but, they did make good comedy shows for sure.
