Mary Shelley

I had this on the other night and I looked over as the credits were ending and I noticed a Mary Shelley was given co-creator credit, along with the original author.

I was wondering if anyone knew what this was about. Is Mary Shelley just someone who edited the story enough to become co-creator, or is Mary Shelley the writer being given credit for inspiration.

Just curious if anyone has the story on this.

I guess it would be credit for inspiration of the character since she wrote Frankenstein. Actually, the real inspiration for Tetsujin-28 is a mythical figure from japanese folklore named Majin.

You're thinking of Mazinger Z for the Majin reference, not Gigantor. Frankenstein was the main influence on Gigantor.

Could be both...
--Some trivia: Billie Lou watt did the voice of Jimmy Sparks; but also Astro-Boy and this character: "Who lives in deepest, darkest Africa?" Sing more? ok, "Who believes in doing good and DO-ing right? ______, the _______ _____ is the one!"
--Any takers? I'll be BAAHK.

In the original Gigantor comic, its author had a character named Dr. Franken and he created what was called the "Monster" which really looked like Frankenstein's monster that went around causing havoc. Dr. Franken himself dies once but comes back to life, and creates another robot called the "Black Ox" which he tried to implant artificial intelligence to but fails and in the end it becomes remote controlled like the Gigantor. Black Ox was the first giant robot that was as strong or stronger than Gigantor and was its formidable opponent for a while. These stories were syndicated during 1959 to 1961 in magazine "Shounen". Maybe the credit was related to these episodes. I need to check the DVD to see if these episodes made it into animation (it probably did).

Majin was the inspiration for Mazinger Z and other Go Nagai Robots of the Mazin Saga, not Tetsujin 28 which simply translates to Iron Man 28.

Gigantor was inspired by both Frankenstein and the frightening power of technology after the atomic bombings which is why Mary Shelley is creditted as Co-Creator.
