'Glory Guys' inspired TV show?

The timing seems too tight since Glory Guys (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059232) premiered in July '65 and F Troop debuted in September '65, but the movie featured a whole incompetent troop out in the west fighting Indians and I remember thinking as a little kid watching back then that it had the same vibe of lovable but challenged soldiers... (except in the movie the danger is real)

The TV show does resonate of a producer watching a movie western and thinking: "We could make a comedy out of f-ups fighting Injuns!" and Glory Guys does seem like the perfect inspiration...

Possibly Advance to the Rear1964, might have been an inspiration, or service comedies set in modern times.

Pillers of the sky(1956) also features a cavalry unit struggling to train a batch of new recruits during an dangerous mission.

I always thought of F-Troop as Bilko in the Calvary. Only a lot funnier!

Women. Can't live them, pass the beer nuts.

Advance to the Rear was a more likely inspiration, along with The Phil Silvers Show. The F TROOP pilot episode was mentioned in TV Guide as under consideration for the fall schedule in the Dec. 26, 1964 issue which would predate Glory Guys' release by 7 months.

Are any of these movies shown on TV anymore? Even on TCM or AMC? Would be nice to see a movie of bungling soldiers.

Let's not forget the cartoon "Go Go Gophers" .

In the 'area?' of Gopher Gulch .a cavlary uhit (mostly
one Col. Kit Coyote & his Sergeant Okey Homa (also a coyote)

....goes on the war-path trying to remove 2 (count 'em two!) otherwise peaceful Indian Gophers. Running Board & Ruffled Feathers ,who always outsmart the other two anyway.

Originally appeared on the Underdog series from 1966 to 1968 before being briefly spun off as a separate series on CBS in 1968 and 1969.48 ofthem made overall.

I'd bet there was 'some' inspiration from F Troop. 

(The Col. is based on teddy Roosevelt and the Sgt. based on John Wayne.)
