Agarn's white hat

Has there ever been an explanation as to why Agarn has a white (or maybe tan) hat while everyone has a blue hat?

EDIT: By a weird coincidence, this morning the movie "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" with John Wayne was on. Some men (officers) wore white/tan hats while the enlisted men wore blue. Still... O'Rourke and Agarn were both non-coms, but only Agarn wore white.

Maybe the true answer is "Dude, it's Hollywood. Don't worry about it."

The fact that he was wearing a non-regulation hat was a running gag. If I remember right, somebody (O'Rourke?) was always yelling at him, "And get rid of that hat!"
