Alfonso has said her character being written off temporarily played a part in her decision to exit the NBC soap after 37 years. But executive producer Ken Corday tells EW: "In order to launch a new story — and we had a great story for her, we still do — I needed her off-camera for three or four months. During that time, something very interesting happens so she comes back to Salem with a secret. It doesn't look like that's going to happen." When asked if there's a chance Alfonso would change her mind and return to the NBC soap, Corday says, "That's up to Kristian." Meanwhile, Galen Gering, whose Days contract already expired, announced he is sticking around after fans expected him to also say farewell.
