Retrospective: A year ago vs. today

It's funny the difference a year makes. When Dena and Josh's writing started to air in August 2015, and they were really firing on all cylinders for the 50th anniversary, for months DAYS was must-watch TV. We had Ben slowly losing his mind, Aiden pressured by the DiMeras to kill Hope, and Abigail's pregnancy. This culminated in November with Bo's return, Aiden's death, Thomas's birth, and Ben trying to kill Abby and Chad. The lead-up saw Will, Serena, and Paige killed off.

Fastforward a year, and we're back with Dena Higley as the head writer. This time around feels like there isn't an urgency to regain viewership or create any "must-see" or compelling stories. We have three random past DAYS criminals on the loose, yet another DiMera/Kiriakis company battle, and really not much else. Granted there'll be some returning characters and a departure, but nothing that I think will peak anyone's interest.

They didn't make a big deal this Fall with the "new" writing team taking over like they did with the reset last year, so maybe I shouldn't have expected anything special. I'm just finding what is being presented now is flat and boring, and I don't think I'm alone as the viewership hasn't shown much of an improvement, either.

Thoughts? Do you agree or disagree? I'd love to hear everyone's opinion.

Surprisingly, I find the DiMera/Kiriakis business shenanigans interesting, mostly because of the close friendship between Chad and Sonny. That angle has me invested. Also, I'm enjoying seeing other characters take sides, with Andre, Kate, and Gabi working with Chad and Adrienne and Lucas living in the mansion, and Vic, Brady, Phillip, Justin, and Deimos working with Sonny, with Maggie and Chloe living at that mansion.

I do agree that last year at this time, the show was more exciting, but compared to 2 months ago, the show is much more entertaining now. I am enjoying the 3 villains and their reign of terror, but don't want it drawn out too long.

I actually didn't have that many problems with the show before Dena and Josh came aboard.

What has happened to the show in the last year made me tune out. I watch every once in awhile, but there's nothing that ever excites me.

Al - Alicia
An - Andrew
Jo - Joseph
Be - Benjamin

With the POSSIBLE exceptions of Chloe's mystery baby and the circumstances of Theresa's impending departure, nothing on the show really holds much appeal to me right now. The three buffoon criminals have been nothing but slapstick, and the Dimera-Kiriakis nonsense has been too much same-old, same-old. After a somewhat hopeful start, the writing has gone back to the usual re-hash of old storylines.

Well maybe things will get interesting when Anna returns-- and I am sure Andre will turn out to be Tony in disguise. They don't know how to write for Andre, but they seem to know how to write for Tony.

I agree a Tony-Anna reunion could be pretty interesting. I also think an Anna-Carrie reunion would be pretty cool, since it's literally been decades since they were on screen together.
