I've always wondered....

was he a coward? I've never heard an explanation of why McCord was the only survivor at bitter Creek. Unless he was wounded and unconscious, or trapped somehow so that he couldn't fight. He should have fought to the death. Killed as many injun's as possible.

I remember the series as a kid.Was the truth about Bitter Creek ever revealed?I get the impression that the disaster was due to a bungling General named Reed but McCord wouldn't speak out for some reason.Oh-the series was set in the 1970s,not the 1880s.Custer surely indicates that.

Sorry-I meant 1870s!Also indicated by his meeting Horace Greeley,who died in 1872;

OK, You're right. I just saw the episode with flashbacks to what happened at Bitter Creek. General Reed seemed to be going a bit senile and wouldn't order a retreat. McCord didn't want to tarnish Reed's name, plus believed that if the truth would be known, there may be an indian uprising, or such, because of a delicate treaty.

So if you saw the flashback episode perhaps you could comment on my thread "Battle of Bitter creek".

I remember one episode where it was stated a soldier sacrificed his life to save him. I imagine that happening a few times. Also he could have fought to the last man standing and it was him.
