This movie will never be remade

I can't see that this will ever be remade. The whole premise of a battalion of white Englishmen beating back the Zulu hordes is way too politically incorrect for this day and age.

This movie belongs in a bygone era and will almost certainly remain in that era.

reply

I agree. If it ever was 'remade' if would portray the Zulus as peace loving people of high morals who were badly exterminated by white Brits.

Well that's what Zulu Dawn almost did already.

reply

Yeah...that idiotic 'Final solution to the Zulu problem' line; may the writer of that foolish line be forced to sit on the business end of an assegai for the rest of his days...

reply

Oh yeah the Final Solution crap in Zulu Dawn was just, well...stupid.

And notice there was a distinct lack of showing the Zulus mutilating any bodies and not once did I see any Zulus stabbing horses and camp pets (as they did in reality).

Zulu Dawn did show nasty Brits treating a captive Zulu badly through interrogation though.

reply

But the British in South Africa were the first ones to use the term "concentration camp", as a place to corral Boer civilians.

reply

NOT the same as a forced labor camp or a death camp, friend. All part of the original counter insurgency practice of 'separating' the rebels/guerrillas from their civilian 'support network'. When the authorities in London found out about the conditions in the camp they acted to resolve the issue.

reply

I would like to see a re-make with the company of British soldiers in khaki armed with AK-47's and totally massacring the Zulus with concentrated automatic fire

reply

In all probability the Zulus will have AKs too...The Brits better stick with the FN-FAL.

A puerile comment and a cowardly approach to a brave enemy.

Reserve that type of comment for the Taliban.

reply

Instead of railing against political correctness, get some investors together and remake it yourself. Much better than coming to an internet forum and ranting like a member of a loony its PC gone mad brigade!

Its that man again!!

reply

Well, political correctness is definitely a scourge and a blight on the 21st century but I fail to see the point of remaking a movie that was very close to perfection to begin with.

I don't hear anyone crying out for a remake of CASABLANCA, do you? So why the hell should we try and remake ZULU?

reply

Well put filmklassik.....

It might be interesting to have one that's much more historically accurate. Pe. Hook and Commissary Dalton are severely short changed, for instance.

Whether it would or could actually be a more awesome film is another question.

Stanley baker did an amazing job & I love it as it is

Like most other interested observers, I accepted the long-proclaimed assertion that the British set up the first concentration camps during the Boer War. However, I recently learned that this is an erroneous 'fact'. The first concentration camps were created by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Washington incarcerated Quakers on the grounds that they refused to fight or take sides and thus (in his judgement) were untrustworthy.

reply

Gosh, that's absolutely news to me. Can you cite a source where I can read up about that, please?

reply

It doesn't sound that far removed from their treatment of the Native Americans (Sullivan's Campaign, backed by Washington, was basically attempted genocide, with the destruction of growing crops in the fields, as well as houses and stores, to create starvation) or the imprisonment of Loyal Americans in Simsbury Copper Mine.

and how did it sound in relation to the hell ships used to hold Yankee rebel prisoners?

I'm just sayin' prisons were par for the course 'back in the day'
