Pure crap

This has got to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen, although I must admit I didn't (couldn't) watch the whole thing because of the piss poor acting and cheesy dialogue. I find it hard to believe that Susan Hayward was ever an A list actress after seeing her in this rag. I didn't expect much from Mike "Mannix" Connors or Joey Heatherton, since he's just a TV actor and she's a "singer" and a "dancer." What a waste of time.

Watching it now. Have to agree.

Joe Mannix has officially removed you from his Christmas card list.

So glad I have a DVR so I could fast-forward through this turkey and still not miss anything. To think that Susan Hayward was considered an actress!

reply

i agree that this film was trashy but watching Bette Davis stealing scenes from Susan Hayward made this worth watching :-)

Nowadays an actor like her would be called a histrionicist.

No, scratch that. An actor like her would be called "unemployed."

The sad thing is that this is the kind of script that was offered to actresses of Davis's and Hayward's ages, and this was undoubtedly one of the better ones. Undoubtedly anyone being introduced to either actress via this film today will wonder what the fuss was about, but Davis's great work from her Warner Bros. years is there to be seen, and Hayward gave some excellent performances in the 1950s.

"In my case, self-absorption is completely justified."

It was a paycheck picture, Bette Davis self admittedly only did it so she could pay for the lavish wedding Daughter B.D. Wanted. She loathed Susan Hayward because Susan Hayward didn't tolerate her diva like ways and put her in her place. By this time Susan Haywards career was on its way out she didn't do many good films after this truth be told.

I felt the film was OK. I've heard about Joey for a long time.
