Shirley's Exotic Gowns by Edith Head

The world famous designer Edith Head outdid herself for this film. Instead of merely reflecting the fashion styles of the day, miniskirts & polka dots ala 1964, Head treated us to Shirley in white mink babydoll pj's, a white satin gown held up by a string of pearls & dressed head to toe in pink chinchilla. What a Way to Go!

Edith Head received one of her many Oscar nominations for her work on this film and this is one time where she should have won that she didn't. The costumes for this film (MacLaine's in particular) are just exquisite.

I agree with the other posters that Shirley MacLaines's costumes, especially, in the "Lush Budget" segment with Robert Mitchum were spectacular and made this movie quite memorable. This movie was fun and had some very humorous moments, but the best part was wondering "what will she wear next?" Ms. MacLaine never looked lovelier, and Edith Head's work was pure genius!

TOTALLY agree with all of the above posters!

I rented this film from Netflix. On the disk is an "extras" section and in that portion the narrator goes on to say that Edith Head's costumes for this film were $500,000! For 1964 that was a HUGE sum of money. Talk about a Lush Budgett!

I want to know where are these dress?! I loved basically everything she wore in this movie. I would travel to see them up close.

Some of the most gorgeous gowns in any film. And Maclain does them justice!

I liked how her mourning clothes got more elaborate with each husband.
