Their first date

I know, I know, it's an Elvis movie and logic doesn't apply. And I recall that Elvis says something about knowing the helicopter company owner pulling a favor...

But still, did anyone notice how expensive Elvis and Ann-Margret's first date surely must have been, despite the fact that his character was supposed to be recently broke? In fact, isn't that one of the main plot points?

Not calling this an error, just one of the things about this movie that makes me laugh... (not to mention the money going into the pool suction.)

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

not to mention the money going into the pool suction.

Yeah, why was that needed? The money was already ruined by the water. The audience didn't need to see it literally disappearing.

reply

Well, no, water doesn't ruin money. I'm sure you've gotten bills wet before?

I meant the absurdity of the young boy picking up the cash and then deliberately and for no reason stuffing it into the cleaning suction.

But thanks for the applause.

No. And aren't they made from a different material today compared to the '60s?

I think I didn't pay attention. It seemed to me like the boy picked it up and he just happened to come out of the water next to the suction.

Please, HikerBoy57 (think we were born in the same year), this is a gorgeous, sexy fun film but the logic lapses raise it to high camp!

I love how they can just whisper to each other in the helicopter. And what they do that day would take us 5 days. But we are mere mortals, while they are Elvis and Ann-Margaret!

Love when they are in the 'copter and Ann says "That's Hoover Dam and that's Lake Meade right behind it. Can you see it?" No, honey, it's just one of the biggest man made lakes in the world. Maybe you should point it out better.

If it is not in the frame, it does not exist!

Very true! BTW I was not born in '57 but much later; that number references something else. 

Oh, well... if you like camp check out "Cobra Woman" or "Untamed Youth". The musical numbers in "Youth" are mondo beyondo. And "Valley of the Dolls" is the King (Queen, I think is more like it) of all WTF movies.

Tell NYC "Hello". Lived there 20 yrs before I moved to a place where I could hike.

I was going to post something along those lines. Later he seemed to always have money for things. Then again Ann was a student with a couple minimum wage jobs who drove what looked to be either a Triump or MG (Don't really know old sport cars by sight).

Ahh the magic of Hollywood. You always have money and you can hop on stage to do a major production performance with basically little or no practice or set up. I guess it works if you just don't think about it eh?

Money was made out of the same heavy-duty fiber-infused paper back then as it is now. I've forgotten bills in my pocket quite a few times and they've gone through the washer with no damage.

I thought the kid accidentally dropped the wad in the water and it just happened to get sucked into the pipe. If he did it on purpose, it wasn't clear. Even a kid that age would realize the value of the money and either try to find its owner, or keep it for himself. He wouldn't discard it.

It’s similar to another Elvis movie that I watched right before this one — “It happened at the world’s fair.” He and his partner were supposedly broke in that one too, yet he somehow always dressed in a CEO attire.

Elvis had an image that depended on looking good all the time. The plot to a backseat to his appearance.
