Watched last night for the 1st time...

Got the Criterion blu ray. The transfer is great and the movie was excellent.
Highly recommended!

Me too; agreed! I hate blind buying movies because unless I end up totally loving the film, I don't really want to own it. But I couldn't find another way to watch this, and it's pretty far up my alley, and reviews were good, so I decided to take the chance and buy the blu-ray. And well, I ended up totally loving it.

A top-notch 60s samurai action flick. That this was any director's first film is crazy. Hideo Gosha is a badass.

Found this DVD in my local library. An amazing tale of death and honour crammed with glorious action sequences and thoughtful, "Who's right in this outrageous life-threatening situation?" moments.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning why classic chanbara (Japanese sword-fighting) films are so appealing.

Some of the best cinematography I've seen of all these classic samurai films.

Intense and engaging from the very first minutes. Surely a great discovery in samurai films.
