Actually, it's Teenage Awards Music International

In the programme I had (and gave away in 1979 to Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top) it was referred to as Teenage Music International. It may have changed its name between the printing of the programme and the event itself - the programme, for instance, lists a duet between James Brown and Leslie Gore! - but I'm going with my original assertion, since that name was its first printed breakdown of the letters.

I think both versions of the acronym were used at the time.

The concert was supposed to be the start of a scholarship fund/awards program for teenagers who were making a difference in their communities. Unfortunately the scholarship part of the idea never came to fruition, so the "Teenage Awards Music International" version of the name lost its relevance.

Thankfully, the concert itself survived.
