Glen Campbell

I watched this film last night and was fairly impressed--especially by Marvin Gaye, James Brown, the Beach Boys and the Stones, but really almost everyone. As the movie ends, and all the performers appear on stage for one last song, one hears this pretty incredible electric guitarist. I'd assumed it was Keith Richards, since the Stones had just finished their set. But then I noticed that Richards was sort of dancing around and semi-singing but definitely NOT playing. (I love Richards, but I'd never really heard him play like this--a very fluid, riffing style--before anyway.) It just occured to me looking over the IMDB entry, that the guitarist in question must be none other than Glen Campbell! Now, very occasionally Campbell is overrated as a guitarist (as when someone will claim he's the greatest in the world, can play anything, etc.). But no doubt, the guy is (or was) really good. That little snippet at the end of the show confirms that.

Glen Campbell IS STILL a great guitar player. I saw him in person in Branson two years ago, and he really put on a great show. His daughter was there and sang with him.

He is still touring, so go see him if you get the chance!

I'm not arguing, but I assumed, having just watched the film for the first time, that the guitarist was someone in one of the studio bands who were backing up many of the artists.

lubin-freddy, Campbell was the studio band guitarist.

Okay, if you say so.

BTW,I saw the Stones earlier that same year, when they appeared at Convention Hall in Philly, as part of an "English Invasion" concert.

You can see Glen in the house band stage right behind Keith during their set - he's the only one playing along with the Stones as they performed, although I doubt he was plugged in at the time. The shredding at the rave-up sure sounds like him too.

He's also visible when James Brown walks off stage after Night Train.
