Judging purely from the plot shown on IMDb...

Is this movie at all like Sunset Blvd.?

Not even remotely. Are you sure you've got the right film?

The only similarity I can think of is the fact that the main (male) character is entrapped by a woman who has power over him. But this could also be said of Clint Eastwood's `Play Misty For Me` and many other films. So I can't think of any connection.

Possibly if under the influence of psilocybin.

Sunset Boulevard is a movie I would watch again. This one, not so much. Suspension of disbelief can only take a person so far.

Exactly the same, except there's no dead chimp buried in the garden.

True, but the woman does have a deceased husband and daughter who perished somewhere on the premises in a sand slide and whose bodies she's never been able to locate, thus so emotionally crippling to her that she makes no attempt to escape her life of slavery because she can't leave without the bodies of her family.

I think he was more "entrapped" by the evil village captors than he was by her; he was simply in the same boat with her but she had resigned herself to her circumstances and fate while he himself went through the process throughout the narrative until he, too, abandoned any serious thoughts of escape.

I read a little "Stockholm Syndrome" between the lines and the psychologincal breakdown of both the woman and (eventually) the man whose austere circumstances have crippled them to the point that they can no longer consider escape even when rare opportunities arise for them to do so. That being said, I'm a huge fan of SUNSET BOULEVARD and could also watch it repeatedly.
