Cinematography + DVD

I just finished watching this film, and I can not believe my eyes. That is the greatest cinematography I have ever seen in my life. It was so beautiful, I was constantly smiling and clapping my hands in excitement. The first scene with the camera that starts off on top of a building, and then goes down a level and finishes in the pool is completely unbelievable. I love how P.T. Anderson used that same shot, not copied it, but just referenced it I guess. But yea, I'm still in awe about it.

The biggest problem I have though is with the DVD. Is there any news about a new DVD coming out? This is the type of DVD I would love to see Criterion get a hold of. It needs someone to take care of the scratching, the audio, and the subtitles. They were horrible on the DVD I watched. With all that, it is still an unbelievable film.

Thank you P.T. Anderson and Martin Scorcese for introducing me to this wonderful film.

AS of right now, I do not think there is an I Am Cuba criterion dvd in the works. But they do have I Am Cuba on laserdisk for Criterion. But who uses laserdisk? Lol.

And when you talk about Pt Anderson, are you referring to that shot in Boogie Nights? I would have to agree with you.

reply

I am definitely referring to that shot. From outside the bar, into the bar, and going through the bar following one person, and then another. It is a beautiful shot.

It definitely is a beautiful shot. I love how it continues to move, but once the camera meets Dirk, it finally stops. It's as if Dirk Diggler is the only one with the power to stop the camera.

Have you ever seen Russian Ark? Check it out, I think you'd like it.

reply

No I haven't seen that one, but I will check it out.

Thanks.

Wasn't there a shot in 'I am Cuba' where it follows some buff girl into a pool? Wasn't there also an exact scene in 'Boogie Nights'?

watch Letyat zhuravli / The Cranes Are Flying, same cinematographer. I was in awe... I rarely ever rewind..but I just HAD to on that film. Some of the techniques or camera movements are absolutely incredible. I had to rewatch certain scenes just to grasp how it was done.

I just noticed that there is a new DVD that came out not long ago. I`m hoping that it will be worth it. Let me know if someone has bought it and believes it is worth it.
