General Scott--Russell Crowe

Col. Casey--Viggo Mortenson

President Lyman--Sam Waterston

That's my $0.02 worth.

reply

General Scott-- Willem Dafoe

Col. Casey-- Russel Crowe

President Lyman--Tommy Lee Jones (An odd choice I know but a great actor and believable as the President considering we've had two Presidents from the South in the past 16 years)

I see Russel Crowe as being too honest and pure for the role of General Scott. Seems like he fits the bill for casey much better.

It was remade. It was called JFK, and the coup was a success in that one.

reply

It was remade on HBO a couple years ago

I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than driving with Ted Kennedy

How do you remake perfection? And why bother?

Screenman.

<How do you remake perfection? And why bother?>

PRECISELY! It also makes one wonder why anybody thought they could top Frank Sinatra in "The Manchurian Candidate" with Denzel Washington and a murky script re-write. Some screenplays should never be revisited regardless of some deep-pockets Hollywood zit-popper who insists on buying himself a "legacy" -- this film is one, as is "Dr. Strangelove".

Six Actual......OUT!

And due to PC, they couldn't even make the villains Chinese and Russian, so they made them a faceless corporation.

It was remade in 1994, by HBO I think. It was called "The Enemy Within" with Jason Robards as the bad general and Sam Waterston as the president.

Cookie Monster as the general, Kermit as Casey, Gonzo as Lyman, and J-Lo as Ellie! Should be filmed in Cinerama with some original songs for the cast to sing!

reply

Col Casey : Bruce Willis

General Scott : Robert Redford

President Lyman : Sam Waterston

Eleanor : Marg Helgenberger

There are alot of great actors who could remake these roles.

However, alot of these earlier films from the mid-60s and before, rely on the technology (or limits thereof) of that time in order to work properly and logically.

I just do not know how you could portray a secret base, all that manner of goings on in this day of satellites and all the gee-gaws that keep information so hard to conceal.

And without the success of General Scott's operation for a long time, until Jiggs uncovers it, this film just doesn't work.

The gist of the film between the lines was: He Almost Got Away With It!

Scott was in the 11th hour of his takeover after a long preparation and training period--how somebody could get away with that in this day and age would take away from the tension of the film.

All IMHO of course.
