Nice Cinematography And Great Soundtrack

Dr. Jeckyll's Mistresses is a pretty effective little gem for an early 60's horror film. It's about a scientist who kills his brother and then turns him into a kind of zombie-like robot and makes him commit murders...Pretty tight script with some great cinematography and nice, rural Spanish location shots. A few moving sequences tossed in as well including a brilliant scene where the zombie visits his own grave. There is also a fantastic jazz soundtrack. Apparently, this movie goes under four different titles and Dr. Jeckyll's Mistresses is a bit misleading as it has nothing to do with Stevenson's classic tale. According to the liner notes on the Arrow Films DVD release, this is the "full length version which includes sequences specially shot by Jess Franco for the French audience."

I enjoyed it, too . . . the connection to The Awful Dr. Orlof was sure tenuous, though. I bet that was tacked on simply for marketing purposes.

I prefer this to The Awful Dr Orloff.
Dr Jekyll's mistresses is more atmospheric, tells a more focused story and has aged better overall.
