Kim and a question on the ending

Hi all
Firstly what a wonderful actress Kim was; being American but putting on a beautiful convincing English accent.

Now to the end. Firstly I got the impression Billy had informed the police. Then I thought if this wasnt correct did the police genuinely come in for a Seance for genuine help? But really I go the impression they already knew. How did they know? Was it by kims Seance ? Was it a deliberate tactic by the police ?
Thanks

They didn't know but they had strong suspicions. The seance was a ruse to see if she'd reveal that she knew details of the case. When she spilled the beans they knew for sure.

Also, the detective they brought with them (the Chief Inspector asked him 'if he thought it was possible,' then sent him out to the car) was one of the men the police had stationed outside the underground station to try and spot the kidnapper trying to make contact with the girl's father. He noticed Richard, but told the Inspector he couldn't be sure it was him. If you watch the movie again, watch that detective in the scene; he is looking at Richard very hard.
