Strange thing in the MST3K versions

They cut out the beginning of the opening credits, incluiding the title card: "Joseph E. Levine presents - a JaLoR Production - Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". Why would they do this, for the only time in the show? One might guess copyright issues, but the movie is public domain!

They tried to do us a favor and show us as less of the movie as they could.

Time constraints. Most MST3K's were cut to an hour and padded out with host segments. Seasons one and two were running over by 4-5 minutes, according to MST3Kinfo.com, and Comedy Central was getting pissed by season 3.

Joel Can't control where the movies begin or end because he used those special parts to build his robot friends remember?

reply

Yea, Comdey Central should have known that. Pretty funny.

They had a good joke in replace of the "Title Card"...

"It's either Santa Claus Conquers the Martians or Road House..."

reply

Maybe it had to do with the print they had to use.

I ordered a DVD from an independent company for the film 'Village of the Giants,' and their print was missing the first couple credits before the title appeared.

hello. there has been a horrible [audio/video wise] print of this film floating around for a LONG time! it has been released, re-released & re-re-released by all these cheap, hole in the wall 'labels' & ending up in a bargain bin for $1.00. the opening title card for that particular version was damaged & therefore unusable. in some instances ive actually seen a title screen made up by the dvd distributor inserted in, with the mis-spelling of Santa ''Clause''. with an E at the end. ridiculous. however theres Good news. KINO Classics has released the BEST version ever seen of this classic film on DVD/Blu-ray. it's available on Amazon since late 2012. hope you check it out & enjoy it. :D
