come on fox get rio conchos on dvd

this film cries out to be on dvd in scope and full length with as much extras as possible especially on the marvellous richard boone. I used to hire this film on 16mm in the 60,s and 70,s from F.d.a. anyone know if it is still available.

Pull your finger out Fox and do the business. Great western please lets have it on dvd in the uk.

In my opinion Rio Conchos is an absolute classic film. I have seen it on TV several times, and I totally agree with you that it should be much more widely available to buy on DVD or video. I also agree that Richard Boone is magnificent in this film.

I remember seeing this when it first came out in 64 at the age of 9 and have rarely seen it since. But it stood out as a great Western and heck I'd settle for a VHS copy of it. But of course DVD would be better, perhap's all of us fan's of this rousing flick should get together & petition FOX to get off their proverbial lazy butt's and release it on DVD.
From what I've heard VHS will soon be a thing of the past, just as vinyl albums are.
It seem's just when I get a nice collection of movies,...a new media invention comes along and everything changes. I have 2 DVD player's, but only 7 DVD movies opposed to over 300 VHS movies. Ain't THAT a bitch?! HA! This movie & A Thunder of Drums are two of my fave Richard Boone flicks.

FOX OR WHOEVER GET THIS ONE AS LONG AS A THUNDER OF DRUMS, RUN OF THE ARROW AND BROKEN ARROW. ALL THREE MY FAVOURITES AND I´M ONLY 32 YEARS OLD. AM I OUT OF MY TIME OR WHAT?

Fox usually releases their "Western" films in May of each year (along with their "War" movies). I expect to see it out in May of 2007.

reply

Interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. I'd love a copy of this one. IMO, it cries for widescreen. Goldsmith's outstanding score helps the action immensely. And I love Franciosa's performance.

Fox...do the right thing. "Rio Conchos" on DVD.

We'll spread the word.

The Jerry Goldsmith score alone is worth the printing.

THANKS I BOUGHT THE MARVELOUS JERRY GOLDSMITH SCORE ON CD,,,,,IT SHOULD OF AT LEAST EARNED AN OSCAR NOMINATION,,,SHOULD OF WON

As Lassiter said to Rodriguez:

"Fox...in your entire life you ever think a doing something somebody other than Fox?"

reply

Ha.

Three Card Monte on a cold deck.

As for Goldsmith's score, in addition to his typically muscular and exciting overture (that builds and builds), I've always liked the cue when Boone and his horseback contingent ride into the frame and the camera reveals Pardee's Southern Mansion mock-up in the desert. Good Western music suddenly lurches and soars upwards to recognize the weirdness of the mansion, and we "feel" it.

Also, the music for the final image of the film (under "The End") is apocalyptic, gripping, and poignant.

This is a much neglected gem of a Western. The Fox network has aired it letterboxed a few times, but it really needs a dvd to do it justice.
The acting, the score, the tough dialog and the gritty realism were outstanding in 1964. I was 14 when I saw it and was impressed that the West was populated by renegades, drink sodden killers, whores and banditos, not John Wayne or Roy Rogers types.

We deal in lead, friend.
