Clearly, Fistful of Dollars is the Worst of the Trilogy

For a Few Dollars More was pretty good...

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly was a near masterpiece...

But the first of the trilogy, Fistful of Dollars was pathetic.

Especially as compared to Yojimbo, the movie its based on. There's just no comparison. Leone brings nothing new to the story, except setting it in the west. The sequels are far superior.

C'mon ... that's a little harsh, you think? It's not as if this is Fistful of Dollars is Godfather III.

TGF3 is a good film, it's just not a great film like it's predecessors.

Fistful of Dollars is a great film. Very stylish, cool, and violent. A great way to introduce "The Man with No Name". I don't care if it's a remake. I've never seen Yojimbo and I have no desire to. This film is way, way better than the crappy and very overrated The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. However, Once Upon a Time in the West is by far the best of the three films. I've only seen these 3 Sergio Leone films. I can't wait to see more though.

Kind of silly of you NOT to want to see YOJIMBO,since it was the main inspiration for AFOD in the first place---you should check it out, because it's a pretty good film in its own right.

reply

I agree it is silly not to want to watch Yojimbo, because these are two different films, why critique in comparison, have an opinion of each as films, and both insofar as they are related separately.

reply

Well...it is the worst of the Trilogy. So what? It is still one of the best movies ever directed.

Fistful is an underrated gem.

The fist time I watched this I thought it was okay. Then I saw it a few more times and thought it was pretty good. Just saw it again for the first time in a long time last night and right now it's my favorite of the three. It's so much darker than the other ones, I love it.

SPOILER ALERT: Soylent Green is, in fact, people.

"In your opinion. Me, I think The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is horrible. Not so long ago I bought it (after having seen it once on TV, as a kid), and I really wanted to love it. I could not; I found it abysmally bad.

I like A Few Dollars More best, but Fistful's quite nice, imo. It all comes down to taste.
(Apart, of course, from the fact that Yojimbo is superior to Fistful, which is fact, yea. ) "

I agree!!!

I agree with you! Allthough I don't think a fistful of dollars was bad. It was pretty good. The Good, The bad and the ugly was a masterpiece and one of the best movies ever made. Fistful of Dollars cannot top that. I haven't seen For a Few dollars yet though. I'm gonna try and do that tomorrow or something.

I prefer to say that this is my least favorite in the trilogy, as it's pretty good in itself. I prefer Last Man Standing, though. xD

Well, by that rationale, they should just stop the remake cycle. Because Last Man Standing (in comparison) was terrible.
