Pure Manga

The scene in the mine when he is relearning to use a gun after the beating. I think it's the only time in the film when his eyes are fully open, his thin face is pointing downwards but he's looking up. It reminded me of a manga cartoons shortly before everyone starts fighting - I wonder if that look influenced the way manga is drawn?
