Morricone's Best Score?

Ennio Morricone is probably best accalimed for the theme of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (or perhaps the Ecstasy of Gold from the graveyard showdown) but thinking about it I'd say that the Fistful of Dollars is, in my opinion, the best of his work.

That theme is probably the catchiest motif and takes me personally into a mystical haze of Western wonder. What do other people think?

I actually think the main theme in this film is a tad too goofy sounding. It's not BAD at all, just rather ill-fitting. My personal favorite is the main theme from Once Upon A Time In The West. That is a heartbreaking piece of music. But I like all of his western themese. Morricone was a master.

I agree that Fistful Of Dollars has the best score, tho "TGTHB&TU" has the best main theme. But fistful is just chock full of classic tunes.

I agree with gilbert, the music for Once Upon a Time in America is the most beautiful & haunting I've ever heard.

From what I've read, I know that Morricone holds this score in his lowest regard. The main theme wasn't an original (he used an insturmental version of a song he wrote in the early sixties). But besides what the master himselfs thinks of it, I think it's one of his best, even if he hadn't found the perfect form of the rest of the Dollar trilogy yet.

And to reply to guitarnoise65...Morricone is still the master...even now he writes incredible music; he only slowed down a little ;)

Personally I have to go with For a Few Dollars More. The musical locket theme is incredible! Just so eerie and haunting.

I had to look up the lyrics, to this. There actually are lyrics.
We can fight
We can ride
We can win

The score on this movie definitely adds to the tone of it.
